Juan Carlos Cornejo, DO

 

Dr. Cornejo grew up in Washington DC and in Virginia. He earned his medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri.  He later moved to the Philadelphia area where he did his internship and residency. After residency he worked in a medical weight loss and cosmetic center in 2008 where he practiced nonsurgical aesthetics including botox, juvederm, and non-surgical cosmetic laser procedures. He also provided medical weight loss treatment including FDA approved medications.  After completing a sports medicine fellowship, he worked as a nonsurgical medical orthopedic and sports medicine physician at University Orthopedic Institute at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia for several years. He treated orthopedic conditions including neck, back, shoulder, elbow, hand, hip, knee, ankle, and feet pain.  He was also a clinical instructor at Drexel Medical School. He has taught a number of students and residents during his years in practice.

After working many years in academic and private practice, Dr. Cornejo decided to open up his medical practice in NJ with a new vision.  Combining his osteopathic medical training, family practice training, medical orthopedic, sports medicine training; and experience in medical weight loss, aesthetics and acupuncture, he started Momentum Medicine Plus LLC, which offers a multitude of procedures from pain medicine to medical weight loss. He sees the wellness of each person as an integrated whole rather than an individual problem. He has received extensive training in medical weight loss, botox,  juvederm, cosmetic lasers, dermal fillers, NCV, medical acupuncture, osteopathic manipulation, prolotherapy, and independent medical examinations.

Even though he believes and was trained in traditional western medicine ideas and principles, he believes that there are other medical options when these have failed or when these are not mandated.  He also believes that one treatment may not fit one disease. That is one condition could be treated with traditional techniques such as physical therapy and also acupuncture at the same time or different times.

As evident by the humanitarian award he received in medical school, he believes in helping those in need and in pain. He has traveled to Mexico the last two years providing prolotherapy for those who are suffering from chronic pain conditions and who may have had little access to medical care.  Likewise, he treats each and every one of his patients like a human being rather than a number. He prides himself in being caring and understanding.

He lives in South Jersey with his wife who is a nurse and his young son who loves karate, piano, and soccer.

April DeVera Cornejo, BS, RN

 

April grew up in Voorhees, NJ. She received her bachelor’s degree in finance from Rutgers University. After she graduated, she worked in the business world. However, she always had a passion for healthcare and nursing. Her mother was a nurse for over 30 years. She was also always interested in nutrition and health since a child. While her brothers ate pizzas and sodas as kids, she always ate fruits, vegetables, and water. She also participated in several beauty pageants as a teenager.

Eventually she decided to follow her dream and become a nurse. She enrolled in an accelerated nursing program at UMDNJ and later started her nursing career in orthopedic, bariatric, neurological, and trauma nursing. Along the way she continued her interest in holistic medicine and nutrition by not only studying these topics but by living a healthy lifestyle herself. She has taken a yoga instructor certification course and enjoys Pilates, yoga, exercise and fitness.

Consequently April is an asset as the clinical and office director for the practice. She enjoys teaching about healthy lifestyle, nutrition, and exercise management.
